For anyone who loves fashion and knows what’s in style, the big, loose jeans have been everywhere lately. It felt like those low-waisted, baggy jeans were the only cool choice, with pointy or Tabi boots disappearing under the long bottoms. But now, as things get warmer, another kind of jeans is slowly becoming popular again. We’re talking about straight leg jeans – not too baggy, not too tight, but just right.
I first saw these jeans starting to come back during fashion shows earlier this year. It was clear that models wore them a lot when they weren’t working in Paris and New York. Usually low or medium height on the waist, and worn with flat shoes, ballet pumps, or boots, straight leg jeans feel easy and relaxed, without making you look swamped like some baggy jeans can. And if you, like me, never want skinny jeans to come back, straight leg jeans are a simple choice that feels classic.
It’s no surprise that lots of models have started wearing straight leg jeans – the style has also been seen more on the catwalk. Think about the low straight leg jeans in Diesel’s Fall 2025 collection, or all the shiny and glittery straight legs at Versace’s Fall 2025 show, or even the slightly loose, not-quite-skinny jeans from Dsquared2’s Fall 2025 collection.
While straight leg jeans have become popular before summer, the style isn’t going anywhere. Bella Hadid, who I think really knows her jeans, has also been wearing straight leg jeans for a while. She often wears them with a vest and trainers, or sometimes small heels. The 28-year-old model has really mastered how to wear straight leg outfits. She also likes high-waisted straight leg jeans with a belt, which feels like “early 2010s mom” in a good way. Maybe it’s just me, but I think she looks even better in straight leg jeans than in bootcut ones.
Luckily, finding the best straight leg jeans for summer is pretty easy – unlike trying on tons of bootcuts in a bright, harsh changing room. My colleague Alice Cary loves old straight leg jeans because the denim feels more alive. “The pair of Levi’s 501s I found in a vintage shop in the US years ago are perfectly worn-in and will keep getting better as I wear them,” she wrote for a magazine recently. “They have a look that’s hard to make in a factory.”
Of course, models look good in anything – that’s their job. But if there’s one trend worth copying this year from the coolest people, it’s straight leg jeans. Whether you’re a model or not, I really think you can’t go wrong with this simple and classic style.
